Shelly Mora grew up in urban South Africa before moving with her family to Taupo, NZ as a teenager. Knowing nothing about farming when she met her husband, they investigated many options before making a crucial purchase that has helped paved the way to where they are today.

The couple investigated agricultural opportunities after Shelly moved to the Waikato and brought a pig off Trade Me as a bit of fun. Not wanting the pig to be lonely they bred from it and they started expanding from there!

Shelly is a free range pig farmer of a Heritage Breed Pig, known as Purebred Large Blacks the largest herd in New Zealand and third largest in the world. She manages the Huntly property full time, while her husband manages a nearby calf rearing property. They currently run 115 breeding sows with 95 piglets on the ground. They specialise in weaners and breeding lines, 8 weeks and out they go. "I love what I do, I love talking and relating to customers and looking after the animals on the farm. If we can make a difference to the mindset and way pigs are farmed then that is our ultimate goal."

Shelly we love your passion and the journey that has led you to where you are today. We look forward to seeing you grow and expand as "the Queen of Large Blacks".
