"I felt at home straight away! I returned to Europe to finish my degree and then jumped at the chance to gain practical farm experience back in New Zealand. I started at the bottom and worked my way up."

Growing up in rural Belgium with her family entwined in farming and rural life, Valerie spent most of her childhood amongst the pastures and livestock. While completing a Degree in Ag Science in the Netherlands, Valerie was given the opportunity to work on a research project at Massey University in Palmerston North. "I felt at home straight away! I returned to Europe to finish my degree and then jumped at the chance to gain practical farm experience back in New Zealand. I started at the bottom and worked my way up."

Valerie gained a job at one of the Lincoln Research Farms which gave her the chance to combine her science background with hands on farm work. Then it was time to challenge herself and move out into larger farming endeavours, learning and putting into practice feed budgeting, pasture and stock management. "I have been very fortunate to be involved in progressive companies and be surrounded by some inspirational colleagues."

We are glad you found the awesomeness that is our primary industries and agricultural sector. New Zealand is lucky to have you!
